Are Japanese Girls Really Sluts? Part 4

Biology & Sociology

This time I like to talk about this subject
from the aspects of Biology & Sociology.

"Romance is a game for fools"
I used to say
A game I thought I'd never play
Then you passed by
And here am I
Throwing caution to the wind

So why do fools fall in love?
Why are people attracted to each other?
Well, just one word "Sex"!
It means "for reproduction."
All mental, emotional and physical joy
and ecstacy of love, romance and sex are for reproduction.
Without them, people lose the interest to have a baby.

Okay, boys and girls,
now, I give you a lecture of the basic biology about sex.
What do women really want from men?
Two things,
the one is the good gene to ensure the success of offsprings.
As the number of babies women can bare is limited,
women are always looking for men with good genes.
It means that women are looking for qualities of men.
phyical beauty and superiority are good indication of
what kind of gene that men have.
Another is the support from men, financially, phisically,
mentally and emotionally for raising children
becauce it takes a long time for human babies
to reach adulthood.
Though men say women always look at men's wallets and cars,
it is very natural and rightfully for women to do so
in order to find a man to give them enough support
to raise kids.
And men with money means
men with a talent to make money as well if he made that
and that gene can contribute to her children's future success.
Also men with brave and sweet personality
can offer good protection and care to women.
So those are the qualities of men that women are looking for.

On the other hand, men do not have to bear a child,
which means men are looking for not only good qualities
in women but also quantities as well.
Men want have sex with many women to spread his genes.
That makes men cheaters and also women can be cheaters too
because they always look for men with a better sperm
even after she got a one with a good sperm.
Then why do they get married?
Because it is better to do so
in order to help each other to raise childen.
That is why human being have
very contradictory sexual behaviors.
You got that, boys and girl?
Goooood!

Okay, so let's apply this theory to the subject,
"Are Japanese girls are really sluts?"
When a Japanese girl come to New York city,
she sees any kinds of men from all over the world
and naturally she compare one with others,
especially Japanese men with White men and Black men.
Then she finds what White men and Black men got,
hight, broad shoulder, thick chest, long legs and
big penis......
Well, naturally she is attracted to White and Black men.
On the other hand, for White men and Black men
Japanese/Asian girls are not paticulary attractive
becuase average Japanese/Asian girls have flat faces,
small breasts and shorter legs,
those are not appealing physical features for men.
So in order to get the attention from White men and Black men,
what do Japanese girls have to do?
They have to be sexually agressive,
which means being slutty.
Is that means all Japanese girls
become sluts for White men and Black men?
Well, not all of them, not that simple.

Now I like to talk about the other aspect of this.
Still interracial relationships are
the hot topic on American media time to time.
And most of the times it is about White and Black relationship
but the reality is, even in the city like New York,
you do not see many White and Black couples.
Instead, the most common interracial couples are
between White men and Asian women.
Not only Japanese women but also many other Asian women
like to date with White men as well.
But not as much as Black men
though some Japanese girls love Black men.
I will talk about that some other time.
One Asian woman told me that
they are tend to be attracted to White men
becuase Asian men do not have any glamorous images
in American media.
That is so true,
there is no Asian men who is cute, handsome or sexy
in American media.

When Japanese media found Mashi-Oka in "Heroes",
They got quite excited because it is very rare to see
any Japanese character in American hit TV shows.
So I wrote in my article
"Japanese media are so ignorant and stupid,
Mashi-Oka is nothing but a stereo type."
Japanese/Asian men are supposed to be Chinky, Gooky,
Geeky, Nerdy, Dorky, ugly and super uncool men.
The reason you do not see attractive Asian men
in Americna media is exactly same as you could not see
many attractive Black men in American media till '70s.
In this White dominated society,
the most attractive men are supposed to be White men.
So White audience did not want to see attractive Black men
because attractive and sexy Black men
can be threats to White men.
but Black people have changed that by protesting.
As the result of that,
you see Black star like Denzel Washington now.
Asians have not done much for that kind of change.

Japanese have been in love
with the Western cultures for a long time.
And they have tried to immitate so many of them
and along with loving and admiring the western cultures,
Japanese have been admiring Whites physical beauty as well.
That is why you see many White models in Japanese media.
And that probably makes Japanese sort of White wannabeis.
If you grow up in Japan, you can be brainwashed to believe
Whites are the most beautiful peole.
And that's why all manga and anime characters
do not look like Japanese/Asian.

And that's not only for girls but boys as well.
As a matter of fact,
many Japanese men like to date with White women too.
But they can not, why?
Because White women do not pay much attention to Asian men
because Asian men do not have enogh physical qualities
White women are looking for.
Some White women like to date with Black men
even Black men are in the lower social racial hierarchy
than White women because many Black men have
many good physical qualties and strong sex appeal.
For White women, Asian men are not only much lower
in the social racial hierarchy
but also do not have much physical qualities,
which means there is no reason for them
to be attracted to White men.

I know, I know you are saying
you have seen some Asian men & White women couples.
Yes, that can happen because people are attracted
not only for physical qulities but also
good personality, intelligence and others as well.
But the differece is that
you can hunt Japanese girls in the street or in clubs
if you are White or Black men.
For Asian men, in order to date with White women
they have to make freinds with them in environments like
offices or schools,
then develop that to the more serious relashionships.
Asian men can never hunt White women in the street or clubs.
And no matter what they try, majority of White women
never consider Asian men as subjects for dating, sex or marriage.

White women do not open their legs to Asian men
for exactly the same reason that
the sluttiest Japanese girls in New York
do not open their legs to the certain groups of men
who they consider socially lower than them.
I do not say who they are but just guess.
That's the way women are programed biologically.
So who is the losers of this game,
of course, Japanese/Asian men.

How Come Oyajis are So Rude?

Oyaji means a dad or a middle aged guy,
I say, loosely late 30s to 60 years old.
When younger people call a middle aged man Oyaji,
it usually means uncool, stabborn, unajustable,
way behind the current trends or bold old guys.

Japanese are known to be very polite,
which I believed when I lived in Japan.
However, I changed my view about that
after I came to New York.
Atually what I found was that
Japanese Oyajis ARE the rudest people.
Believe me, they are rude.
Well, some of them are nice
but many of them are rude.

How so?
They have very bossy arrogant attitude toward
younger people, their employees, people at stores
and anyone they think who are lower social hierarchy than them.
I realized that
when I worked for Japanese restaurant as a waiter.
Though some customers were bitches and assholes,
most of American customers were nice, who are usually
educated middle class Whites at Japanese restaurants.
They say "Thank you" to waiters
whenever waiters did something to them.
On the other hand, most of Japanese customers
do not thank waiters and especially Oyajis got
very rude attitude toward waiters.
They are so arrogant!

I think Japanese politeness is very superficial.
They have developed a very polite and orderly culture
as so many people living in a small country
that they must follow the rules
and try not to disturb social calmness and cooperation.
But also thier other strong social order is
Nenkoujoretsu(年功序列),
which is a strong social hierarchy according to people's age.
If you are older, you are automatically higher than others.
Though this is breaking up finally,
still it is very evident social system in Japan.
This system was created to prevent the competition.
Well, one might think the competition is good for the society.
Yes, but Japanese chose cooperative attitude
over the fair competition
because they believed that free competition can lead to
the unstabel society, anarchiness.
It is all conservative idea to prevent
"The tail wags the dog" situation.

At Japanese work places,
it is very common to find the situation like
your boss at your section of the corporation
is a very untalented worker
but very bossy and super arrogant, almost abusive.
Probably he was promoted to the position
simply because he is older than others
and in order to prevent any contempt from others,
he acts very arrogant way.

Well, fianlly this kinda stuff is fading away
but the point is that Japanese Oyajis constatly feel
this kind of pressure to prove
their musculinity and superiorty
in the social hierarchy.
That turns out their very arrogat attitude.

I hate rude Japanese Oyajis!
Because of that same mentality,
they abused and tortured POWs during the War,
they killed so many other Asians.

Japanese politeness and Japanese rudeness(and demonness)
came from the same place.

Wait, come to think of it,
I am a Japanese Oyaji, hahahahaha.

Japanese teaching Japanese in U.S.

Teaching English is the bread winning job
for most of Gaijins in Japan.
Well, for ones who speak English.
If you are a Gaijin, speak English and got BA degree,
You can be a English teacher right away
even without any teaching Experience or other credibilities.

This is the story I read somewhere a long time.
There was a White guy teaching English
at some English school in Tokyo,
who was not a native English speaker.
After the class, one of his collegue talked to him,
who was an Asian American person.
And he said "Despite of the fact that
I am a native English speaker and you are not,
you are a much more popular teacher here.
You know why? Because you are White and I am not."

I guess most of Gaijins have already realized this fact,
except the ones in public schools,
many of Japanese go to English schools
because they like to see Gaijins,
they are paying not only for learning English
but also for Gaijin viewing.
They are willing to pay to see Gaijins,
mainly White or American Blacks
because of the same reason many Japanese stare at Gaijins,
the fascination with Gaijins,
more precisely Gaijins and the glamorous American
and European culture Japanese see behind Gaijins.

Now I think they are mostly replaced by the meetup.com
but till '90s, Adult education classes were very popular
in New York like a writing class, painting class, film class,
cooking class, you name it, any kinds of classes.
And one of the reasons of their popularity was that
they provided the place for people to meet and socialize.
English school in Japan is very similar to that
though some schools are very serious ones.
Many Japanese go to English schools
for meeting or socializing with someone
while enjoying to view Gaijin Pandas.

Once my friend in Tokyo told me he had hired
a private English tutor and she was an young American.
He said "She got an easy job because I told her
all she had to do was just chatting with me in English."
I said to him "Which means you bought a Gaijin."

Because Japanse see so many Gaijins teaching English in Japan,
they really misunderstand that
they can also teach Japanese in U.S. as well
which is not true at all.

In New York, most of language school are
for immigrants and foreigners,
and they teach English.
As a matter of fact, very few places have a Japanese class.
Though the interest in Japanese culture is on the rise in U.S.
because of manga and anime,
still majority of Americans are not much interested in Japan.
Therefore there is not much demand
for a Japanese class unfortunately.
People who already have the position
to teach Japanese rarely quit
because they know once they quit,
it is almost impossible to find another
as it seems that there are more Japanese wish to teach Japanese
than Americans like to learn Japanese.

Of course, some colleges with Asian study department
have Japanese class also.
However, they usually hire
their Japanese graduate school students of their school
as instructors for Japanese classes,
which means you do not get a job to teach Japanese
at college either unless you have a strong connection with them.

Well, actually this is the story of New York.
If you go to somewhere far away from the big cities
where you do no find many Japanese,
some college might hire you as a Japanese instructor
as long as you got BA degree.

If you were an Asian and spoke English with accent

About two years go, I desperately needed some work.
One of my friend, who is no longer in New York,
is a lawyer and have worked for several agencies in this city,
suggested me to apply the position of paralegal.
Though I had known paralegals were assistants for lawyers,
I had not known what exactly they did,
I asked him if I could really do that job,
as especially I did not have efficient level of English skill,
as you see here, I knew I even could not do proof readings.
He told me paralegal work from the three agencies he worked for
is fairly easy, basicaly an entry level assistant work
and still they pay $18 an hour.
So I said "Okay, I will give it a shot!"
He gave me tel# of those agencies
and sent an e-mails of recommendation to them as well.
So I called them and talked to the people
who were in charge of hiring paralegals.
They asked me to submit my resume by e-mail and I did that.
So the next phase was
to call them again to get the interview date.
As my friend suggested me not to call them too often
because they can be annoyed, I called them twice a week.
I did that about for three weeks but I could not catch them.
So next week I called them three time a week,
next week four times, next week five times
all different time zone but I was always told
they were away from the desk,
at the meeting, lunch break or gone for the day.
I eventually realized they were all avoiding me.

Agencies pay $18 a hour means that Lawfarms pay like $25.
If you send assistants to your clients for entry level work
and they pay $25 an hour, of course you like to send
a White person, or at least someone who speaks good English
without any accent, which is not me.

In this city, if you are an Asian who does not speak English,
you are a yellow monkey.
If you are an Asian who speaks English with accent,
you are still a subhuman.

I am an Asian who speaks English with a heavy accent
an have a very strange Asian name.
I have been living my life as a subhuman here,
which is my choice I did not have to stay here.
And I do not hate White people
because I know the racism does not discriminate.
Asians, Blacks, Hispanicks, they are all same.
All of them can be racistic as White.
On the other hand,
undeniably this society is dominated by White
and they do have power and control,
which means if you are not White,
more likely you are discriminated by White.
That is reality too.

And as American Whites are so well educated by Blacks
about race relations, they seldom show true colors.
So sometimes I cannot trust them.
even if they are smiling at me,
very possibly they think I am a yellow monkey.
Low class uneducated Blacks and Hispanicks,
if they look down Asians, they really show that.
So at least it is easier to tell.

Possibilities and Limitations of J-POP culture in U.S.

The cultural relashionship between Japan and U.S.
has been always like a homely looking high school geeky girl
have a totally one-sided love
toward a handsome star football player.
Of course, he does not notice her a bit.
So she does everything to get his attention, even giving him money.
And this poor girl has been having an obsessive fantasy
that he does care for her even he does not show any sign of it.
No matter what he does or say,
she tends to interpret that it is out of his love for her.

Even before the war, hip Japanese boys and girls
immitated American latest hip cultures
like foshion, music and dance.
In '20s and '30s, those hip boys and girls were called
"Mobo(Modern Boy)" and "Moga(Modern Girl)".
Their fashion was immitation of flappers and
they danced to jazz.

Her name is Midge Williams and she went to Japan in 1933
and she not only sang in clubs in Japan
but also recorded five songs for Japanese Columbia
in English and Japanese about 75 years before Jero
(American Black Enka singer who is now populr in Japan).

Ever since those times, Japanese have been always in love
with American culture.
And their wishfull thinking has been always
America also liking Japan,
which had been far away from the truth
except those so-called Japanophiles.
So I kept writing the vast mojority of Americans
have no interest in Japan or Japanese cultures.
But then, if I go to DVD stores' anime section and game shops,
they carry tons of Japanese titles.
Hmmmmmmm......
So I decided to investigate what kind of Americans
like those Japanese animes, mangas and other J-pop cultures,
and what kind of cultural phenomenon this is all about.
And what is gonna happen after this?
Will U.S. accept more Japanese other pop cultures as well?,
or will still the racism prevent that?
I believe anime and manga were accepted
because their characters do not look like Asians.
In '60s and '70s, Japanese monster films were popular in U.S.
because the stars of those films were cool monsters,
not ugly flat-faced Asians.

Today I went to New York Anime & Manga meet up group,
and had a good time to talk with people, American otakus.
Though I am still working on the subject of Chinese immigrant,
I am really looking forward to
talking to more anime and manga people next month.

Are Japanese Girls Really Sluts? Part 3

This time I like to talk about infamous "Yellow Cab".
About 20 years ago or so,
there was a rumor in Japan that
Japanese girls were called "Yellow Cab" in U.S.,
which meant anybody could get a cheap and easy ride.
I had never heard such a thing in New York city.
However, it was true and still is true that
some Japanese girls are acting like big sluts
for White men and Black men in this city.

Here in New York city,
many Japanese girls who date with White men or Black men say
they did not come to U.S. to look for boy friends and
it was just a coincident for them to meet White or Black men
and fall in love.
Really?, then why do all Japanese girls
who date with non-Japanese men date with Whites or Blacks?
I have never seen Japanese girls date with Arabs or native Mexicans.
This means they obviously choose men.
And if they choose them, it is hardly a coincident.
At least a part of the reason they come to U.S. is
to hunt White or Black men if it is not all.

Not only in New York but also in Japan
it is a well-known fact among male Gaijins
that it is easy to find Japanese girl friends
because they do not have to go to girls, girls come to them.
When I lived in Tokyo, I met a male Gaijin who had said
that he had been doing "Hyakuningiri" and it was almost accomplished.
"Hyakuningiri" means that a Samurai slashs and kills 100 men
with his sword.
So guess what it meant for him.
I also met a White guy in New York, having been in Japan,
who said that Japanese girls looked very shy
but they were sexually very agressive.
"Japanese women invited me to their apartments and cooked for me,
and after that they fed their bodies to me too."
I also met a very nice looking Black guy in my neighborhood gym,
and he said that Japanese girls were oriental delights.
I bet many Japanese girls made a line in front of his door,
he was a gorgeous looking guy.
A few years ago, I was walking down the 8th street,
and recognaized two Japanese girls in very elaborated fashion
walking in front of me, who appeared to be early twenties.
When they stopped at the trafic signal,
I stopped right behind of them.
Then suddenly an Italian looking White guy came and talked to them
with a few Japanese words like "Nihon no josei ha kwaiine"
(Japanese girls are cute) and those girls followed him.
I was stunned, just stunned
because he was obviously a stranger to them.
I can go on and on about these kind of stories.

But why do Japanese girls do that?
Not only girls but also many men in Japan
have been so in love with
American and European culture for such a long long time.
A small island nation like Japan
has been always yarning for glamorous culture from abroad.
Once it was toward China for many years
and now it was toward U.S.(and Europe).
And Japanese media keeps feeding people
tons of glamorous, trendy or shocking images
of American culture like music, films, TV shows and fashion.
Therefore having sex with White or Black men
for some Japanese girls
means being f**ked by glittering glamorous American culture,
putting them into their own bodies and being one with them,
being one with something they have been longing for years.
As the result of that, some Japanese girls,
who have White or Black boyfriend or husband,
even feel like they have become higher existences
than average Japanese.

Are Japanese Girls Really Sluts? Part 2

The other film that created the other image of Asian women was
"The World of Susie Wong"

This is the second "Hong Kong" film of William Holden
who starred in "Love is the many splendored thing."
He met and fell in love with
a beautiful Chinese woman who happened to be a prostitute
and her name was Susie Wong.
Since the release of this film,
The women who seduce White men with sex had become
the other image of Asian women,
oriental sex kitten, oriental seductress,
oriental whore with low morality
who loves to eat White men.
Even "Susie Wong" had become the synonym to Asian women.

The actress who played the role of Susie Wong was
Nancy Kwan who was half Asian and half Cacasian.

The Chinese actress, Joan Chen
who was in "The Last Emperor" said that
She was puzzled when she came to Hollywood
because all the roles she got were
the women who seduced White men in very sexual ways.

So there are two stereo type images about Asian women.
One is that Asian women are not very pretty
but obedient and love to serve White men.
The other is that Asian women are exotic sluts and whores
who love to have sex with White men.

Are Japanese Girls Really Sluts? Part 1

About 10 years after I had come here,
I heard this very disturbing information,
the stereotype image about Japanese/Asian women is
that all of them are whores or sluts.
I was shocked and confirmed this to
many of my Americna friends and acquaintances.
Only one female friend said she knew but all men said they knew.
One of them explained his theory and according to that,
Many American men encountered Asian women for the first time
during or after the war in Asia like
Japanese women, Korean women and Vietnamese women.
And all those women swarmed to GIs as prostitutes.

I did some research on this subject
and came up with these two films.

< Sayonara > (1957)
During the U.S. occupation time right after WW2,
This handsome GI, Marlon Brand, went to Japan
and fell in Love with a Japanese girl
who is a star of all girl musical troup like Takarazuka.
But his senior officer told him that
he could not get married with a Japanese girl.
Marlon's fellow officer
who also had fallen in love with another Japanese girl
committed a suicide with her
after he had been forbidden to get married.
And Marlon was forced to leave his girl and Japan.

This is basically a variation of "Madam Butterfly"
which represents some subliminal themes.
1) Asian women love and love to serve White men.
2) Asia is supposed to be subordinate to the West.
3) Whites and Asians cannot get married because
Humans should not get married with Yellow Monkeys.

The actress who played the girl who committed a suicide was
Miyoshi Umeki, Japanese Jazz singer who came to U.S. in 1955.
Almost immediately she got a chance to appear in American TV
which lead her to act in "Sayonara".
And she became the first and only Asian actress who won Oscar
for that performance.
Interesting enough, Miyoshi was a very homely looking woman.

Then why she had such an instant success???
I guess it might have been the same reason
why ugly Black actresses got more parts than
the Black beauties like Lena Horne at that time.
Because ugly Blacks were more non-threatening
for White audience, who believed
Whites were supposed to be the most beautiful race.

The role Miyoshi played in "Sayonara"
became one of the stereo type images of Asian women,
which is Asian women are not very pretty
but very submissive, obedient
and love to serve White men.

Miyoshi had played more stereo type roles for a while
and eventually retired in 1972,
her second husband died in 1976,
and she died in her nursing home in 2007.
Since her retirement from showbiz,
She had not accepted any interview offers.

The Good Old Stereotyping!

This is so awful, just awful!
I just watched it for the first time.
This show is about the stereotype, Japanese are supposed to be super wackkkyyyyy.
Needless to mention about something like these contestants staying st the house with the RED TORII Shinto Shrine gate, which is rediculous enough, Japanese audience in the studio were obviously instructed to laugh very loud when American contestants failed even if it was not very funny, which can make some American TV audience think Japanese are cruel and horrible.
Yes, the concepts of those Japanese shows are about laughing at someone getting a public humiliation, which is pretty horrible, but the most of the time, contestants are people in showbiz and they know these show are supposed to be funny and they do that to get laugh, so does audience.
But that concept is not well translated as these American amature contestants appear to be doing this so seriously in the Reality TV format that they make a comment like “These Japanese people must be crazy, they are killing me”.
I am sure these Americans know what they are doing and acting, but because the usual concepts of American Game shows are that someone challenges the game seriously and audiences praise, the seriousness of these contestants can confuse the hell out of American audience.
Yeah, yeah, of course this is what Amercian TV likes to see, the Good Old Stereo Typing.
Sigh….

Chinese Food Delivery Man

Since I used to cover pop music for Japanese media,
I had visited many record companies in Midtown.
Sony, BMG, EMI, Universal, you name it.
And each time I talked to the receptionists,
they thought that I was from some Chinese restaurant
to deliver the food.
Even they did not say it,
I could tell by the way they looked at me.

So I asked some other Japanese collegues
and they said they had similar experiences.

Whenever those receptionists see Asian guys
in casual attire like jeans and T-shirt,
they think they must be from Chinese restaurants
or messengers.

The vast majority of record companies' employees were White
and I found Blacks only in a Black music department.
Asians?, they were the extreamly rare spieces there.

At one time, I had to wait at the receptionist area
for about one hour, and Asians I saw there were
three guys from Chinese restaurants.
Therefore I cannot say it was completely a prejudice.

And eventually, I had become to realize that
the majority of people everywhere,
they think I AM a Chinese food delivery person.

In New York city, there are many many
Chinese fast food restaurants.
Most of them have a small storefront
with simple decorations
and a kitchen right behind that.
Some of them look Okay, some of them look kinda shabby.
You order something from their menu
and they cook it within a few minutes.
Most of their workers speak minimum English.
And they deliver, yes they do.

For the most of non-Asian New Yorkers,
Chinese fast food restaurant workers are the Asians
that the most frequently they have a contact with.
Therefore they naturally have become Asians' stereo type
along with Korean grocery store workers
and Chinese laundromat workers.

If I walk down the street with jeans and T-shirt,
most of people that I pass by think
I am supposed to be from
some underdeveloped country of Far East,
and came to U.S. as a poor immigrant or a refugee.
No education, no cultural sofistication
that I am supposed to have.
I am supposed to work at a Chinese restaurant
or deliver Chinese food.

I am taller that average Americans, 6 feet.
I graduated from the very good college in Japan.
I have been professionally writing for a long time.
I think my taste for music, films and books is
more sofisticated than average Americans.
But they do not matter.
Because, for them, I am suppose to be
a cheap Asian food restaurant worker.

This has created a huge identity crisis in me.
And this is the reality that I am living in.

Five Wishes

How come so many people immigrate to U.S.?
No matter what they say,
the main reason of immigration is always money
as they are seeking out financial opportunities.
If it is realy for a political asylum,
why it has to be U.S.?

Before that war,
many Japanese had immigrated to Hawaii and California.
However, having had a wealthy society
for the last 30 years or so,
Japanese do not come to U.S.
as immigrants of the traditional sense anymore.
Well, some people still come here
to open Japanese restaurants
or to start some other type of business,
but those are the minorities.
Now most of them come here
because they are gravitated by the glamorous American images
amplified by the irresonsible medias.
In other words, they come here for fantasies.

All Japanese, almost no exception, expecting five things
when they come to U.S.

1. Learning fluent English within a few years.
2. Making lots of American friends, which means usually
White and Black
as they do not know much about other races in U.S.
3. Getting an American boyfriend or girlfriend,
again this means usually White, or Black for some girls.
4. Doing something exciting.
5. Having a success of one form or another
including fincacial one and fame, maybe.

Every Japanese, other people too,
come here with these kinds of hopes.
However, most of them quickly realize how hard these are.
For Japanese, learning English is not easy.
Actually they learn the basic English, enough to get by
in their everyday lives, fairly quickly.
But the difficulity starts there.
It takes more than four years for them to understand
CNN news with their eyes closed.
Listening to TV & radio programs can improve
their hearing ability, they need talk to Native speakers
to improve their speaking ability.
But it is not easy to make American friends
if they do not speak good English.
Though Japanese are eager to make American friends,
Most of Americans are not interested in making
Asian friends, or are they?
Therefore most of them do not make American friends,
and do not improve their English much,
and because of that, can not work for American organization
unless they have some sort of special skill.
Some Japanese girls get American boyfriends
because they use SEX.
But even most of those kind of girls
do not have any American friends either.
Once they learn the decent English,
the next thing they realize is not only language
but also the culture and the society they have to learn
to make a good conversation with Americans.
The proper knowledges about
anything that average Americans know is neccesarry
like politics, entertainments, sports, traditions
and even something like old TV shows.

But even if they do not speak good English
and have no American friends nor exciting career,
still New York can be a fun place to live.
Going to clubs, doing shopping, doing some dopes,
they can have a good time with their Japanese buddies.
Then a few years pass very quickly
and the time will come for them to realize
what they are really doing here.
They see the realities like
working in a Japanese restaurant as a waiter
or doing something boring and futureless
for Japanese companies
and their English still sux, sux, sux.
And the most of all, they have very purposeless lives
as most of them come here with only false hopes.

Unlike other immigrants who came here
for financial opportunities.
Japanese go home after about four years.
For other immigrants, finacially making it is
far more important than
being fully accepted by this society.
But Japanese have a place to go back
where they do not have to struggle with their language
nor cultural differences, nor racial stereotypes,
nor legal status: Visa
and still they can have the same kind of,
or even more materialistic life style.
Then why do you stay here?
So they go back, most of them.

Racism against Gaijins in Tokyo vs Racism against Asians in NY

This is the video that tokyocooney made about Racism in Tokyo.
He is a writer & comedian who lives in Tokyo,
originally from New York, and makes fun videos
about his experiences of living there as a Gaijin.
I really enjoy his videos, actually love, love his videos.
However, this latest one got my nerve a little
even though I do understand this is supposed to be a humore.
Gaijins in Japan often complain about
being treated as a novelty in Japan,
and how annoying Japanese always make comments on
how well Gaijins use chopsticks.
Also how annoying it is
whenever they get stared by Japanese in public spaces.
In case you do not know, Japanese stare Gaijins
because Japan is, even not completely so,
a very homogenized society.
Therefore people are very curious about
someone lookig different from them.
Also as Japanese media keeps feeding them very one-sided
glamorous images about American (and European) cultures,
whenever Japanese see Gaijins,
they see those images behind Gaijins
and tend to be gravitated to them.
But gererally speaking Japanese treat Gaijins nicely
because of those kind of longings for Western cultures.
However, that is not always the case
if you are non-White foreigner,
especially the ones who came to Japan as a cheap Labor.
Well, I have to add Blacks are included to the Gaijin status
as long as they are from U.S. or Europe and educated enough.
The younger generation of Japanese loves new Black cultures.
Hispanics are included too
if their facial features are close enough to Whites
as most of Japanese cannot tell the differences.

I guess Gaijins in Tokyo have no clue
about what it is like to live in New York
as an Asian who speaks crappy English.

Sorry, this might sound like Gaijin bashing.
I do not bash them but I guess I envy them sometimes.

There's A Boat That's Soon Leavin' For New York

I'm free, finally free.
I had finished the piece about Animal Rights a few days ago,
actually it was about Animal Rights and stupid Japanese medias.
I am very proud of the work I did
and now I am moving on to the next subject
which will be about "Generation Next"
and probably about the issues of college tutions as well.
I am plannig to do lots of field research for this project.
Well, mainly I will go to some colleges like NYU and ask students questions.
Anyway, I will talk about them some other time.

Instead, today I like to talk about what it is like to live in U.S.
as an Asian who speaks crappy English.
Yes, this is the beginning of "The Other Side of Lost in Translation vol.1"
a.k.a. The Other Side of Gaijin Stroies.

Japanese medias have been feeding Japanese
the super Glamorous images of American cultures for a long time.
As the result of that, majority of Japanese are quite in love with America
without knowing that it is very very one-sided love, unfortunately.
Also Japanese medias keeps creating images that
these feelings are quite mutual,
which means America loves Japan too.
And of course that is far from the truth except some American Otakus.
Just think of it, any not-beauty-queen girl,
who fell in love with a cutest boy in town,
tend to have a very wishfull thinking like
he might not love her yet
but probably be fond of some of her, just something of her.
Any positive imagination can please her a great deal
and that's exactly what
Japanese medias have been doing to Japanese,
a full of distorted imagination of being loved by America.

Many Japanese in U.S. says "I'm Japanese"
whenever they introduce themselves right after their names,
sometimes even before their own names
as if they believe they are instatly respected and loved
if they say this magic words, "I'm Japanese."
Of course any Japanese knows there is a thing called racism in U.S.
and what happend to Japanese Americans during the War.
Yet they like to or tend to believe
they are liked more than any other Asians by America.
I guess most of people prefer to believe something more positive
and Japanese media are sure not to tell Japanese
the negative aspects of this story
because they know those do not please or entertain Japanese.
And they keep informing them about the latest fashion, music,
movies, musicals, Hollywood stars, star athletes,
new clubs and super trendy restaurants in New York city.
Japanese simply believe all people in New York
live in tall buildings and have great views.
Despite of so many informations about New York
flooded in Japanese medias,
they do not have a clue about the realities of this city.

I had grown up in a very rural area of Japan and hated it.
Then when I was eighteen I came to Tokyo
and entered one of the most famous school.
I met many smart kids with very sofisticated tastes there.
For first two years or so, it was a blast, that's for sure.
But then I was lost
because I did not know what to do with my life.
And one day it dawned on me that
it would be a wonderful idea to go to New York city after the college.
Tokyo showed me so much, then New York can do even more to me.
New York is the capitol of the world, isn't it?

Then I got on the board of the boat for New York.
Well, it was the airplane, of course.
But I like the song from "Poggy and Bess" called
"There's a boat that's leavin' soon for New York."

There's a boat that's leavin' soon for New York
Come with me, that's where we belong sister
You an' me Kin live that high life in New York
Come with me, there we can't go wrong sister
I'll buy you the swellest mansion
Up on upper Fifth Avenue
An' thru Harlem we'll go struttin'
We'll go a struttin'
An' there'll be nuttin'
Too good for you
I'll dress up in silks and satins
In the latest Paris styles
And de blues you'll be forgettin'
You'll be forgettin'
There'll be no frettin'
Just nothin' but smiles
Come along with me, that's the place
Don't be a fool. Come along, come along
There's a boat that's leavin' soon for New York
Come with me, that's where we belong, sister
That's where we belong

Hello, New York, here I come.
I was one of those stupid Japanese who got on the board
with only tons of glamorous images of this city
and had absolutely no idea what is really waiting for me.

To be continued
